Let's Go, Pikachu on a Game Boy Advance: A Switch Remake Shrunk Down
In 2018 Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! retold the original Kanto adventure on Switch, with simplified catching and Pokémon you could see roaming the overworld. Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu for Game Boy Advance asks what that would look like on the older handheld. It is a hack of Pokémon FireRed, built from scratch by a developer known as Kevin PokeFan, who adapted the Switch games' ideas to the GBA.
At a glance
- Based on: Pokémon FireRed (Rev 0), modelled on the Switch Let's Go games
- Created by: Kevin PokeFan
- Genre: Role-playing
- Languages: originally Spanish; an English translation exists
How the translation came about
The game was first released only in Spanish. According to a RetroDodo report, the Reddit user logicalpuddings later completed an English translation covering about 99 percent of the text: dialogue, signs, battle messages, Pokédex entries and the names and descriptions of Pokémon, moves, items and abilities. The translator says no AI tools were used and that the Spanish artwork Kevin drew was kept.
What you get
- Pikachu as your starter, with wild Pokémon visible roaming outside battle.
- The original 151 Kanto Pokémon, along with Mega Evolutions.
- Alolan and Galarian forms.
- New maps, characters and events, with a streamlined battle system.
Because the Kanto setting and the relaxed pace come from the Switch games, the hack suits players who want a lighter Pokémon adventure.
