Dragon Ball GT: Transformation, Webfoot's Last Dragon Ball Game
On the Game Boy Advance, Dragon Ball GT received a side-scrolling brawler from the studio that had made the Legacy of Goku trilogy. Dragon Ball GT: Transformation was developed by Webfoot Technologies and published by Atari, reaching North American shelves on 9 August 2005. It was the final Dragon Ball game Webfoot made.
At a glance
- Created by: Webfoot Technologies (developer), Atari (publisher)
- Released: 9 August 2005 in North America
- Genre: Side-scrolling beat 'em up
- Story covered: the Black Star Dragon Balls and Baby arcs of Dragon Ball GT
- What sets it apart: a different style from the studio's earlier action RPGs
How it plays
There are twelve levels, each ending in a boss fight. Only story mode is open when you start: you earn zeni after each stage according to your performance, and spend it to unlock the other modes. Descriptions of the game compare it to Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure.
Reception and a cancelled sequel
Reviews were mixed. GameSpot gave it 7.6/10 and praised the presentation, while X-Play scored it 2 out of 5 for repetitive play. Metacritic shows an average of 69 out of 100. A sequel provisionally called Transformation 2 was delayed to January 2006 and then quietly cancelled. In March 2006 the game was repackaged together with Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury on a two-in-one cartridge.
Spanish and English on one cartridge
The original release was English-only and North American. This edition pairs that English version with a Spanish one, which is a fan-made translation, so Spanish-speaking players can enjoy it without a language barrier.
