From a Forum Experiment to One of the First Finished Fire Emblem Hacks

The Last Promise did not begin as its own story. It started as the Fire Emblem Universe Game, a forum project in which members wrote characters and tried to build a game together. Like many such hacks it stalled, until the user Blazer (who posted the finished project on Serenes Forest as Crimson Red) took over, renamed it Tactics Universe and, late in development, The Last Promise. It rebuilds Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the seventh Fire Emblem game, almost completely.

At a glance

  • Based on: Fire Emblem (The Blazing Blade, GBA)
  • Created by: Blazer and Crimson Red, with a team
  • Released: in parts from 2 July 2009 to June 2013
  • Genre: Tactical RPG
  • What sets it apart: Characters, classes, weapons, animations, graphics, maps, music and script were all redone

The story

A thousand years ago, on the continent of Blaine, humans were unable to match dragons and fled to a new land, Solum. In time each territory took its own way of life. Now Magnus, the continent's strongest military empire, is invading its neighbours and has swiftly taken Alicia in the north and Atheya in the east. Siegfried, a former Knight Commander living in hiding because of an injury from ten years ago, and his son Shon gather allies to stop it.

Release timeline

  1. Part 1: 2 July 2009
  2. Part 2, release 1: 17 January 2010

The author later said the team had long since stopped working on it, and that the hack is complete despite remaining bugs.
