X (also known under its tentative English title "Lunar Chase") is an action shoot 'em up for the Game Boy, originally published in Japan on May 25th, 1992. The English version was never officially released.
Story: It is galactic year 8191. Earth is overpopulated and in dire need of new energy sources. In search of a new home, humanity looks to distant galaxies and discovers power crystals on the planet Tetamus II - the setting for the player's mission.
Gameplay: A fast, pseudo-3D space shooter where you pilot a craft across alien terrain, managing fuel and turbo while controlling your speed with up and down. It is notable as an early 3D-style title on Game Boy hardware.
A tech demo of an English-language version of the game, under the tentative title Lunar Chase, was leaked publicly by prototype collector "drx" on September 17, 2006. The build is dated May 13, 1991, and may have been shown at the 1991 Consumer Electronics Show. This is a reproduction cartridge running that English prototype build (v0.9).
