Shredder's Re-Revenge: Streets of Rage 2 Gets a Turtle Makeover
When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge arrived in 2022 as a modern tribute to the arcade beat 'em ups, someone soon answered with a 16-bit version. In December 2022 a hack of Sega's Streets of Rage 2 (1992) called Shredder's Re-Revenge, which keeps the old game's engine and swaps in the Turtles. The cartridge is listed in our store under a slightly shorter title.

What changes from the original
The hack replaces the cast, enemies and story. You can play Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, April O'Neil, Splinter or Casey Jones. Bosses and enemies were reworked, there are new attacks and sound effects, and the stages stay largely familiar with some creative changes. Extras include an optional Turbo Mode and support for six-button pads. It runs at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with 60 Hz recommended for the best music and sound.
Reception
Reviewers on the ROM-hacking community site responded warmly; one called it a "beautiful hack with interesting game changes". Mainstream outlets such as TheGamer and Time Extension also covered it in late December 2022.
