Survival Kids 2: Dasshutsu! Futago Shima (Survival Kids 2: Escape the Twin Islands!!) is the sequel to Survival Kids. Released for the Game Boy Color in 2000 and published by Konami, it follows the same basic structure as the first Survival Kids while adding new features and general improvements. This English fan-translation of the original Japanese game lets you finally enjoy it on your Game Boy.
Story:
The story begins with the brothers Leo and Van seemingly preparing for a camping trip, until they are interrupted by Kiri, a member of the BB treasure hunters, who claims the brothers have the map she needs to locate the treasure of the twin islands. After ransacking their house for the map, the hunters kidnap them. From there the two brothers are separated, one thrown into the sea and the other held captive. Depending on your choice at the start of the game, you may begin imprisoned or washed up on the shore of one of the seemingly deserted Twin Islands.
Gameplay:
Like the previous game, Survival Kids 2 is an Action RPG where you must survive by getting enough rest and regularly eating and drinking. Certain foods such as mushrooms can have varying effects, including paralysis or poisoning, while other food can rot and make you sick; some food must be cooked to be useful. The sequel adds a talking parrot that can assist you in different situations and offer hints if you feed it. A crafting system lets you combine two or three items to create new ones, with plenty of both essential and useless items to discover, so you'll need to think carefully about what to carry. There are 6 endings in total, with slight variations depending on whether you rescued the protagonist's brother.
