Star Ocean Blue Sphere | Game Boy Color
Star Ocean: Blue Sphere is an action role-playing game developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix for the Game Boy Color in June 2001. It is a spin-off entry in the Star Ocean series, serving as a direct continuation of the 1998 PlayStation title Star Ocean: The Second Story.
This game is a fan translation re-created using the original ROM and a translation patch, as the title was never released outside Japan. It can now be played in English (French and Spanish versions are also available).
Plot
Taking place in S.D. 368 (A.D. 2454), two years after Star Ocean: The Second Story and the defeat of the Ten Wise Men, the characters have moved on with their lives. Claude has brought Rena, Leon, and Precis to live on Earth with him, while Ashton, Celine, Dias, Noel, Chisato, and Bowman still reside on Planet Expel. When Ernest and Opera's ship crashes on Planet Edifice, Opera sends an S.O.S. to Precis, who gathers the gang in her self-built ship and heads to the planet. They too are mysteriously pulled into Edifice's atmosphere, and must explore their surroundings to find their missing companions.
Mechanics
Field environments, dungeons, and interiors are navigated from a top-down perspective, while battles are shown from a sideways angle. Players can jump, interact with objects, and photograph enemies in the field to build a compendium. Optional "private actions" between characters enhance their relationships and affect battle performance. Combat is real-time, with three party members (chosen from 12 playable characters) facing a single enemy whose individual body parts can be targeted, alongside character-specific finishing moves that deal significant damage.
