Penta Dragon is a shooter developed by Japan Art Media and published by Yanoman Corporation for the Game Boy. It was originally released only in Japan and only in Japanese, but this cartridge lets you play the game in English thanks to a fan translation. Story: A tale of bestiality and messianistic prophecy. You play as Sara, a girl whose mother was a dragon and whose father was a human. According to an ancient legend, a "Snake Child" will arise to defend the peace of the Wizard Kingdom, and young Sara is the one everyone calls the Snake Child. She was given one of her mother's eyes at birth and, for unknown reasons, needs the other eye when she reaches adulthood. With this goal in mind, she sets out to find her mother and fulfill the prophecy. Gameplay: At its core Penta Dragon is a shooter, but it mixes in elements reminiscent of Zelda. Auto-scrolling is dropped in favor of eight-directional movement, so you can backtrack through levels in case you missed something. The power-up system is also unusual for the genre: alongside the usual shot variations (Forward, Spread and Back Shot) and mega bombs that clear the screen, you can collect inventory items such as health potions and shields. Graphically it resembles the SaGa games. This is a fan-translated reproduction cartridge in English.
