The Devil Children series was Atlus' answer to Pokemon. There are three Game Boy Color versions: Black, Red, and White. In each of these games, you play as a different Devil Child (half human, half demon).
It's not quite like Pokemon, as it has a somewhat stronger storyline. Much like other Shin Megami Tensei games, you recruit demons by talking to them in battle.
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children: Black Book was the first entry in the Devil Children series. The first three entries were never released outside of Japan, but the later GBA games were released as DemiKids; overall, translation choices from DemiKids were not used in this translation.
